We are a small group of educators who, at various points in our careers in Scottish education, have needed and accessed mental health services. Through our experiences, we’ve come to believe that we can help drive meaningful change.
One of the most enlightening aspects of our journeys has been discovering shared thoughts and experiences—finding out that others have felt the same isolation and frustration, . Connecting with others in similar situations has not only helped us tremendously but has also been a crucial part of our healing process.
In short: we’ve been there. We’ve felt lost, alone, powerless, unheard, undervalued, and, at times, utterly desperate.
So, we came together to do something about it.
(Well, what did you expect? We’re teachers!)
Individually we have, with absolute uncertainty, navigated our way through extremely challenging times. We are victims who became survivors who keep pushing as we try to move from feeling stuck and unheard, towards becoming active agents of our own
positive futures; Thrivers, learning to let go of our negative feelings
and choosing to live again.
Of course times have taken their toll, but we choose to derive power from challenges,
our trauma. Learning to pick the positives from adversity. The Teacher's Voice is part of that process.
Its worth highlighting we are not mental health practitioners and won't have all the answers each individual is reaching for. That said, we might know the right questions to ask and the right people to approach. The chances are, we've asked them too.
Every day's a day at school, right?
It is our core belief that by linking people together with shared experiences, such as our own, we can create a space for solace, support, build strength, combat the stigma and tackle the isolation of Mental Health challenges..
This is why we’re here, walking beside you.
Trying to make a difference.
